first_imgTweetPinShare0 Shares ATHENS – A Mother’s Day run through the city’s center attracted hundreds of runners and gave a boost just as the government is locked in stalled talks with international lenders.The 2.2-kilometer event was organized by the City of Athens and Marathon Team Greece by Maria Polyzou and included a number of other activities for children and families, such as face-painting, yoga for mothers and fun time for all.“This was definitely better than expected,” organizer Maria Polyzou, Greece’s Marathon record holder, told Kathimerini.“You could see the joy and moving feelings on the faces and the eyes of the children and their parents, and you knew it was worth all the effort,” she added, thanking the City of Athens and its volunteers for their cooperation to make this happen.Part of the proceeds of the fun run, that intends to become an annual event on the second Sunday of May, has gone to the Mitera Foundation for Infants in Athens.Instead of wearing numbers, participants put on messages of honor to their mothers and despite country’s crisis there was a lot of joy in the streets of Athens, instead of protesters.last_img read more
