LIFX is a smart multicolor light bulb you control with a smartphone

first_imgWe don’t get up to change the channel on our TVs, we use remotes, so why do we still get up to switch the lights on and off? Phil Bosua makes a very good point and it seems that thousands of people agree with his Kickstarter to create smart light bulbs that you can control with your smartphone. It’s called LIFX and it’s a bulb that’s energy efficient, multi-colored, LED and Wi-Fi enabled. It’s the smartest light bulb ever created and you can use your iPhone or Android device to turn the lights on and off, change the light color, adjust brightness, create mood lighting that matches your music’s beat, and even set the lights to slowly dim (or slowly get brighter) to help you get to sleep or wake up.The LIFX is easy to install and use, simply take out your old bulb and put in the new one the same way you would replace any bulb. Then download the free LIFX app from your app store of choice as a controller, and you’re away. It couldn’t be easier. At $69 a bulb on Kickstarter, it’s not the cheapest lighting solution, but you get a lot of brains for your buck, plus the bulb can last up to 25 years, which works out to less than $3 per year. What’s most surprising, however, is how much this campaign has grabbed people’s attention. The Kickstarter has only just entered its second day and yet 2,971 people have pledged $402,977 into LIFX–that’s more than four times the original $100,000 goal. The figure continued to go up as I typed these very words and with 58 days to go, this Kickstarter is likely to be another record breaker.via Kickstarterlast_img read more
