A coronavirus-led demand shock has seen oil prices collapse in 2020, with strict public health measures coinciding with curtailed travel and economic activity. An easing of lockdown measures in the third quarter helped global oil demand to improve, but OPEC now fears a surge in the number of reported Covid-19 cases could derail an expected recovery.“As new COVID-19 infection cases continued to rise during October in the US and Europe, forcing governments to re-introduce a number of restrictive measures, various fuels including transportation fuel are thought to bear the brunt going forward,” OPEC said. LONDON — OPEC on Wednesday trimmed its global oil demand forecasts for the remainder of this year and 2021, citing a weaker-than-expected economic outlook and a surge in coronavirus cases. In a closely watched report, the group of oil-producing nations said it now expects world oil demand to contract by around 9.8 million barrels per day year over year in 2020. That reflects a downward revision of 0.3 million barrels from last month’s assessment. For next year, OPEC said oil demand growth will rise by 6.2 million on an annual basis, representing a downward revision of another 0.3 million barrels from its October report. The group has steadily lowered its oil demand outlook for 2021 from an initial expectation of 7 million in July.- Advertisement – – Advertisement – International benchmark Brent crude futures traded at $44.84 a barrel on Wednesday afternoon, up around 2.8%, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures stood at $42.52, also 2.8% higher. Both oil contracts were on pace to record their third consecutive positive trading session after hopes of an effective coronavirus vaccine continued to bolster market sentiment.Pfizer and BioNTech said Monday that early results showed their vaccine candidate was more than 90% effective in preventing Covid infections. It is hoped a safe and effective vaccine could help bring an end to the coronavirus pandemic that has claimed over 1.27 million lives.Huge challenges remain before a Covid-19 vaccine can be rolled out, but energy markets have cheered the news.Looking further ahead, OPEC warned “risks remain” with regard to oil demand.“Ongoing developments in the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to dominate a recovery amid the latest news relating to a potential imminent vaccine,” the group said.“The structural impact of the pandemic on various sectors, especially the transportation sector, will linger well into 2021.” – Advertisement – Paul Putnam, 53, a rancher and independent contract pumper walks past a pump jack in Loving County, Texas, November 25, 2019.Angus Mordant | Reuters “These downward revisions mainly take into account downward adjustments to the economic outlook in OECD economies due to COVID-19 containment measures, with the accompanying adverse impacts on transportation and industrial fuel demand through mid-2021,” OPEC said in the report. The report comes ahead of the group’s Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 meeting with non-OPEC allies to discuss the next phase of oil production policy. The energy alliance, a grouping known collectively as OPEC+, had agreed to a record supply cut of 9.7 million bpd starting on May 1. The cut was subsequently scaled back to 7.7 million in August and OPEC+ has said it plans further tapering next year.‘Risks remain’- Advertisement – Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries – OPEC logo is seen on the organisations’ headquarters in Vienna, Austria.Jakub Porzycki | NurPhoto | Getty Images
“I have no unique story,” Groene told the Journal Star. “This happens 99.9% of the time.” Except, of course, when people die or live with long-term effects. “I didn’t try to get contact,” Groene told KETV. “It came to me.” He added to the outlet that he feels people need to take precautions, especially if they have health conditions. He also said he “followed the rules” and plans on donating blood to help others. That’s all well and good, but we need national guidelines on mask wearing, social distancing, and resources so people can afford to stay safe and safe home. Thankfully, President-Elect Joe Biden is heading to the White House, and he isn’t waiting until he gets there to start advocating for pandemic safety. – Advertisement – – Advertisement – In speaking to KETV Omaha, he said, “I’ve been sick a lot of times. This is not different. This is not cancer. My God this hysteria.” Curious about how he thinks he got the virus? Groene told the local outlet he believes he got the virus “from someone who was wearing a mask.” He continued: “I did not wear a mask. I have not been traced that I spread to anybody.” As Groene told the outlet, he believes he got the virus while “I was at my Legislative work in Lincoln and had contact.”Obviously, there is a lot to unpack here. First, let’s talk about the idea of herd immunity, of which Groene is apparently a supporter. Then let’s go into the structural inequalities that may lead to a privileged person having a relatively better experience with the virus.- Advertisement – Herd immunity in terms of the coronavirus is a scary idea. Though Donald Trump and Dr. Scott Atlas are pushing for herd immunity as a way to tackle the virus, countless health officials are horrified at the concept. One you might recognize immediately is Dr. Anthony Fauci. Fauci has actually spoken out about Atlas in particular, noting that he has “real problems with that guy.” Which, for the mild-mannered Fauci, is some strong language.Experts have suggested that embracing herd immunity—as opposed to wearing face masks and social distancing—could lead to millions of deaths in the process. That’s horrible from the start, but especially so when we remember that the virus is disproportionately impacting people of color, older people, and people with chronic health conditions as it is. As we saw with the treatment Trump received, as well as the medical attention some high-profile Republicans, like former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie got, medical care is, sadly, not always equal. While Groene may not have needed or received the level of care Trump received at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, for example, we know that systemically, white people have better access to affordable, quality medical care than people of color. We also know that people of color are less likely to be taken seriously when talking about symptoms or pain management. For a white male to be relieved to have gotten the virus over with isn’t too surprising, as white men have a fair amount of privilege and resource in this nation. And even then, we know this virus doesn’t discriminate when it comes to fatalities and long-term effects. – Advertisement – The Georgia runoff is Jan. 5. Request an absentee ballot by Nov. 18. After finally submitting his official nomination in August, passing that nomination through committee by a strict party line vote in September (where he again lied to senators), and then basically forgetting about it, CNN reports Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has been approached about continuing to advance Unlawful Chad’s nomination to a full vote, “a move seemingly acknowledging both a forthcoming change in administrations and criticism that Wolf’s appointment was invalid,” the report said. The Trump administration officially submitted Unlawful Chad’s nomination only because his unlawful appointment risks any policy he’s signed his name to. And there have been quite a few consequential items. Just days ago, a coalition of states in fact sued Unlawful Chad over changes further decimating the popular and successful Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, saying he “lacked the legal authority to issue the memo … because he was never validly appointed to his position.”- Advertisement – – Advertisement – It’s going to be work for the incoming Biden administration to reverse many of the outgoing administration’s immigration policies, but experts have noted that some of that could be eased because many of the policies have been found unlawful in court. In the case of the policy making it harder for working immigrant families to access green cards, “Biden’s attorney general could drop the appeal, letting stand the federal judge’s ruling that the Trump administration unlawfully created the public charge rule,” the American Immigration Lawyers Association said according to USA Today.“To make a long story short,” University of Texas law school professor Steve Vladeck said according to CNN, “I think the effort to have him confirmed is principally with an eye toward attempting to ratify all of the programs and policies that could be struck down by courts holding his acting appointment was unlawful.”Unlawful Chad didn’t deserve to be officially confirmed a year ago and he certainly doesn’t deserve to be confirmed now. The only reason why his name should come up in Congress is relating to investigations into his criminal behavior. – Advertisement –
Jennifer O’Malley Dillon had barely started the job when she shut it all down.Just two days after Ms. O’Malley Dillon was named President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s campaign manager, her operation went entirely remote, an early concession to a virus that would come to define the entire election.- Advertisement – Ms. O’Malley Dillon, 44, found herself taking on tasks never before handled by a campaign, like setting up testing protocols to keep her staff and a 77-year-old candidate safe from a deadly virus, while also trying to win a race that her party viewed as an existential battle for the future of the country. Her campaign battle cry, according to friends and former staff members: “We can do hard things.”Ms. O’Malley Dillon will now tackle another difficult job when she assumes the role of deputy chief of staff in the new Biden administration. A stalwart of Democratic politics, she has never worked in the White House and is a rare new admission into Mr. Biden’s tight circle of trusted aides. Expected to be charged with managing White House operations — a job that has traditionally included logistics, administration and making sure the place runs on time — Ms. O’Malley Dillon will join an administration facing a raging pandemic, economic instability and a fiercely divided country.“She’s a fixer,” says Christina Reynolds, an old friend of Ms. O’Malley Dillon and a vice president of Emily’s List, a leading Democratic women’s group. “She deals with the situation that you live in, not the situation you wish you had.”
Nov 9, 2007 (CIDRAP News) – Deliveries of seasonal influenza vaccine have already outpaced the number of doses ever distributed in a single season, officials from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said today, but they voiced concerns about a possible mismatch of one of the strains. So far 103 million doses of the vaccine have been distributed to clinics and other providers, the most ever delivered, said Jeanne Santoli, MD, MPH, deputy director of the CDC’s immunization services division, at a CDC press conference today. By the end of the season, 132 million doses of the vaccine will be shipped, which is 10 million more than ever produced before in the United States, she added. Some providers may not have received their complete order yet, but all should have enough of the vaccine to launch their annual flu vaccine campaigns, Santoli said.Despite the plentiful supply of the vaccine early in the season, she said the CDC is working to raise awareness that flu vaccination in December or later still offers protection in advance of the flu season’s January-February peak. Santoli announced that the CDC will sponsor its second annual National Influenza Vaccination Week after Thanksgiving, from Nov 26 to Dec 2.So far, the CDC has noted low levels of flu activity in the United States, which is normal for the start of a new flu season, said Joe Bresee, MD, chief of epidemiology and prevention for the CDC’s immunization services division. Only 2.5% of specimens tested have been positive for influenza, and of those, 90% were influenza A, he said. Outpatient visits for influenza-like illnesses are low in all parts of the country except for the mountain region, where the number is slightly higher.Only two areas are reporting local activity, Bresee said. According to the CDC’s most recent influenza update, only Hawaii and Florida reported local influenza activity. Seventeen states have reported sporadic activity. No pediatric deaths have been reported, he said.”The take-home message is that flu activity remains low and that people should get their vaccinations,” Bresee said. “The supply is at an all-time high, and we should make the most of this opportunity.”Though CDC officials haven’t seen enough isolates yet to determine if this year’s vaccine is a good match against influenza strains circulating in the United States, Bresee said the agency is concerned about reports from last season and this summer of possible drift in the H3N2 A strain.Canada’s Public Health Agency said the Wisconsin H3N2 strain has mutated from the one used in the vaccine, according to an Oct 24 report from CTV, Canada’s largest television network. The agency said the Malaysia influenza B strain also showed signs of change, the CTV report said.Bresee said reports from Latin America this summer suggested a drifted H3N2 strain, and he said a US Department of Defense report estimated that the flu vaccine in its European population last season was only 52% effective, which suggests a mismatch between the circulating strains and the vaccine.”It’s too early to tell-we don’t know what that will mean for the United States,” he said. “Vaccination is still the best way to prevent influenza complications, and this year should be no exception,” he noted, pointing out that even without a perfect match, the flu vaccine can reduce illness severity.See also:Nov 9 CDC press release

In the seasonal period, the unit toll price for vehicles IA, I. and II. groups increases by 10%.The model of seasonal toll prices, which was introduced last year, during the 3 summer months in a period of increased traffic intensity, is one of the accepted measures of financial restructuring of companies in the road sector. The introduction of seasonal toll prices for certain categories of vehicles stems from the fact that about 40% of total annual traffic is realized in the summer months, and on some motorways the number of vehicles increases up to three times in summer compared to the rest of the year.
Falkensteiner Hotels & Residences is repositioning itself, aiming to become the leading hotel group in Central and Southern Europe. “The new branding process allows us to redistribute hotels according to four types of holiday motivations – “activity”, “pleasure”, “fun” and “relaxation”.
