Presque Isle brings Ellsworth boys’ basketball season to an end in prelims

first_imgELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth boys’ basketball team’s 2016-17 season came to an end with a 60-50 defeat against Presque Isle in the Class B North preliminary round Thursday.Ellsworth (8-11) managed to keep the game close early but suffered a major blow when senior Bryce Harmon injured his ankle once again in the first quarter. He did not return to the game, and Presque Isle (14-5) took a 29-20 lead into halftime. The Eagles fought valiantly in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to stop Presque Isle from advancing to the regional quarterfinals.Jared Hamilton led Ellsworth with 20 points. Jackson Curtis had nine for the Eagles, and Zach Harris scored eight. Griffin Guerrette scored 24 points for Presque Isle, which also got 15 points from Jason Dumais and 10 from Bradley Kinney. It was the Wildcats’ third win against Ellsworth this season.The loss was Ellsworth’s fourth in a row.
