Furious Pellegrini slams referee Clattenburg following Man City’s draw at Arsenal

first_imgManchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini may face disciplinary action from the Premier League after laying into referee Mark Clattenburg for his performance in City’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal. The Blues took the lead at the Emirates through Sergio Aguero’s first-half strike, but were pegged back after the break when a brilliant team-goal from Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez’s volley put the hosts in front.Defender Martin Demichelis eventually rescued a point for City with a late header but Chilean coach Pellegrini was left furious with Clattenburg, believing he got key decisions wrong which cost his side all three points.“I think it was a great game, two very good teams which try to play, both teams are very creative,” said the City boss.“I don’t think we could have any complaints about our team or the way we played, they all played very well. The clear reason we didn’t win is because both goals by Arsenal were very clear fouls.“For their first one there were two or three continuous fouls and their second one Welbeck fouled Kompany in the box when he was about to head the ball away.“Also, Wilshere had two hands on the ball in front of the linesman and it is a clear penalty, but he didn’t whistle.“But those things happen, it was a good point for us against a good team. Maybe today we deserved to win, but in another game we might win when we don’t deserve it.“We must now try to continue playing our way and try to defend the title as far as we can.”Clattenburg was also the man in charge when man City lost in controversial circumstances against Liverpool last season, when Pellegrini felt Reds defender Martin Skrtel handled for the Reds’ second goal. And the Chilean also suggested his side are being unfairly treated by referees and may find their quest to retain the Premier League title more difficult this season as a result.“I think we have very difficult decisions, today was unbelievable,” Pellegrini added.“He [Clattenburg] had a very bad day today in the same way he had a bad day against Liverpool last year.“I’m very worried about the referee today, so in that case it will be twice as difficult for us to retain our title.”last_img
