Mental Health Parity Law Passed in Economic Bailout Bill

first_imgThe New York Times recently covered a big step in the future of health care reform: A mental health parity law was passed in the economic bailout bill signed by President Bush on Friday, October 3rd. Health insurance companies, currently able to refuse covering treatment for a wide range of serious mental illnesses by claiming it not to be of medical necessity, will be required to offer equal coverage for both mental and physical illnesses. The law is designed to take effect by 2010.last_img
