Source: ESPN 2010-1151.36 SEASONSHARE OF REBOUNDSRANK 2013-1452.21 2011-1251.45 2012-1351.85 When Oklahoma City added Paul George and Carmelo Anthony this offseason, there was speculation about whether the two would diminish the brilliance of Russell Westbrook. Three games into the season, Westbrook appears unfazed, already hinting at another triple-double season. However, the George and Anthony moves do seem to have had an effect on another piece of the team’s core identity: For the first time in a decade, the Thunder are struggling to rebound. The Thunder have grabbed just 47.5 percent of available rebounds in their first three games — about 6 percentage points lower than last year and 24th in the league. As a team, the Thunder haven’t finished outside the top 10 since they moved to Oklahoma City. 2016-1753.41 2014-1552.62 2017-1847.5%24 2015-1654.71 2009-1051.76 The Thunder’s rebounding is off this yearRebound rate for Oklahoma City, through Oct. 24, 2017 2008-0950.87 Three games aren’t a lot to go on. There’s all manner of small sample size nonsense around the league that isn’t likely to hold up: Kevin Durant is not going to average four blocks a game, and the Cavaliers won’t field a lineup that is outscored by 100 points per 100 possessions (uh, probably). But with the Thunder’s rebounding, there’s reason to suspect these early struggles on the glass may signal an underlying change in the team. For years the Thunder had more rebounding than it knew what to do with, and rebounding, unlike shooting, carries steep diminishing returns. This made the team’s allocation of skills unusually lopsided, even as it shed a lot of rebounding in the past two offseasons. The summer of 2016 saw the departure of Durant — one of the best rebounding small forwards in the league — as well as Serge Ibaka, who was traded to Orlando, but the Thunder still managed to finish first in rebounding last season. This offseason, Enes Kanter, who is virtually unplayable on the defensive end but one of the best rebounders in the league, went to New York in the trade for Anthony. Domantas Sabonis, whose draft rights were acquired in the Ibaka trade, was a throw-in to the deal for George with Indiana. The trades have forced the Thunder to play almost exclusively small, with Patrick Patterson slowly working his way into the rotation after offseason knee surgery and looking very rough in the minutes he’s seen. The team has undeniably added talent with George and Anthony, but it has also traded big-for-small — and may have weakened its bedrock identity in the process.Through three games, Anthony has more made 3-pointers (7) than he does rebounds (6) as the starting power forward. George has fared better on the glass, but his 8.9 total rebound rate would still be a career low. The proposition was that Anthony and George both rebound well for their positions, and Westbrook is one of the best rebounding guards of all time. But with the small-ball starting lineup being badly outrebounded, it’s an open question just how valuable that out-of-position rebounding really is.Westbrook took a lot of flak a season ago for piling up empty rebounds — “deferred” rebounds, in the nerd parlance — that saw his big men box out so he could collect the board and rip up the court. The NBA hasn’t begun publishing player tracking stats yet this season, so we don’t have a breakdown on how many of Westbrook’s rebounds have been contested, but it’s going to be something to keep an eye on. Rebounding is essentially a team stat, but if Russ can collect 9.3 rebounds per game with a 15.7 rebound rate from the point guard position and his team still doesn’t win out on the glass, it calls the value of those boards into question. Either Westbrook’s rebounds are a little less valuable than we believed or the Thunder’s new-look roster has rebounded so poorly that Westbrook’s outsized contribution doesn’t matter. (Or, you know, it’s one week and three games and we need to settle down.)So far, the rebounding dropoff has cost the Thunder a little more than 4 points per game in second-chance points compared with last season. (They’re at -1.7 in net second-chance points, down from +2.6 in 2016-17.) This is a very noisy way to look at rebounding, but it’s also the most material way. OKC was outrebounded 58-45 against the Timberwolves on Sunday night in a game it ultimately lost on a buzzer-beater. That’s not the sort of game Oklahoma City is accustomed to dropping. But if the Thunder keep boarding like they have early on, they may have to get used to it.Check out our latest NBA predictions.
England manager Gareth Southgate, says the English media will have to choose whether they want to “help the team or not”, following a picture of England’s training notes that was published online and in newspapers.A piece of paper held by assistant manager Steve Holland containing an indication that suggests England’s line-up for Sunday’s World Cup Group G game against Panama leaked online and in newspapers but Holland has apologised to the squad, according to BBC.Reacting to that, Kyle Walker said:“It’s not going to help us because all the rest of the world has now seen that team,” said defender Kyle Walker.Crouch: Liverpool could beat Man United to Jadon Sancho Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Peter Crouch wouldn’t be surprised to see Jadon Sancho end up at Liverpool one day instead of his long-term pursuers Manchester United.Southgate said the teamsheet was “just a squad list”, and “it doesn’t bother me in the slightest”.But he added: “Obviously any time, if we were to give the opposition the opportunity of having our team it’s a disadvantage to us.“So of course our media has to decide if they want to help the team or not.”Holland’s teamsheet indicated that striker Marcus Rashford could be in line to start alongside captain Harry Kane.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery revealed his long-term admiration for Alexandre Lacazette with a surprising transfer revelationWhen the Spaniard first took charge of Paris Saint-Germain in 2016, then-Lyon striker Lacazette was among his top transfer targets for the club. The France international scored 129 and added a further 43 assists in 275 appearances for Lyon before Arsene Wenger scooped in and signed him for Arsenal. But things could have turned out different for Lacazette had the relationship between PSG and Lyon not been difficult.“When I arrived at PSG we were thinking about signing Lacazette,” said Emery, according to the Daily Mirror.“His quality and his characteristics we liked, and the people who were working at the club when we arrived, they said to us, ‘This player has the quality to play for PSG’.“He was at Lyon and it wasn’t easy to have the conversation or to sign a player from Lyon or for Lyon from PSG. But now we are speaking together with Laca every day.”After a difficult first season in the Premier League, Lacazette has since scored four goals in eight games for Arsenal this term.Daniel Farke, From mid-table in the Championship to the Premier League Manuel R. Medina – September 14, 2019 Norwich City manager, Daniel Farke, has taken his team from the middle of the table in the English Championship to play with the big boys in the Premier League.“Last year was his first year in the Premier League, it was a different league to the French League, a different position for him, a different rhythm,” continued Emery.“Not a different mentality, though, because he has a very good mentality and he gives himself very good chances to score. He is very efficient.“But he needs to continue his adaptation to us, to the Premier League and to its rhythm.“And this year we are looking at one step more in this level from last year.“We are very happy but my message to him is: ‘Every day, don’t stop. Don’t stop in training, don’t stop in matches’.“He must carry on to find his best performance, not just in matches but in each minute of the 90 minutes and he has to keep on doing that.“I believe in him — and in the other players — but in his characteristics, we need him to keep feeling well with his role in the team and with his quality.”
WILMINGTON, MA — At Monday night’s Board of Selectmen, Town Manager Jeff Hull announced that Wilmington High School’s gymnasium floor is getting replaced.“This may be a surprise to many people,” began Hull. “The [new high school] opened in 2015. In the early summer months of 2015, [the DPW] identified that the floor panels in some locations were crimping, particularly in the center of the floor.”The building project’s design firm Dore & Whittier and contractor Gilbane Co. told the town that the crimping was “a natural part of acclimation” and that the wood would shrink and expand depending on the climate.“[The floor] continued to maintain an unevenness, which led the town to pursuing the issue further with the designers and contractor,” continued Hull. “Ultimately, their recommendation was to bring in dehumidifiers and fans, which we did. These has some measure of effect, but the floor wouldn’t settle back down until the fall. These circumstances have continued now for the last few years.”“Clearly, the townspeople paid for a gym floor that was going to function the way it is intended to. It’s the town’s position that the floor needs to be replaced,” concluded Hull. “The expectation is that we will be going to mediation with the contractor to resolve the floor’s replacement.”The town recently completed a bidding process for the floor project, receiving three bids ranging from $219,200 to $268,666.“The expectation is we would be looking to award the job to the lowest qualified bidder, subject to the mediation process,” explained Hull. “Town Counsel is involved as we look to mediate this matter.”“I definitely feel that the contractor is absolutely responsible for this and really needs to pay for it,” added Selectman Mike McCoy. “It should be loud and clear that the town shouldn’t be paying a penny for it. It’s the contractors fault and they’re trying to say it’s not.”Like Wilmington Apple on Facebook. Follow Wilmington Apple on Twitter. Follow Wilmington Apple on Instagram. Glenn EllisMedication errors are one of the most common medical errors. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control, approximately 1.3 million people are injured annually in the United States following so-called “medication errors.” The only way you can make informed decisions and use medicines safely is to know what information is important to obtain from health professionals, how to incorporate the medicine into your daily lifestyle, how to manage side effects, when to seek medical help and how to keep track of important information for the doctor and pharmacist. Ask your doctor why you need the medicine being prescribed and how it is going to help you. Discuss any concerns you have about taking the medicine so that you have all the information you need to decide whether you want to take it. If you do not want to take the medicine, discuss this with your doctor so that a treatment more acceptable to you can be prescribed. The average person forgets 50 percent of what the doctor tells them by the time they arrive at the pharmacy. So ask the pharmacist to go over all the instructions again. Be sure you know how to administer the medicine correctly. Some medicines, such as inhalers that treat asthma, require complicated steps. Your doctor and pharmacist can show you the steps to follow when using an inhaler so that the medicine will reach your lungs and not get sprayed on the back of your throat where it will not work. You may want to ask the pharmacist to let you practice using the inhaler in the pharmacy. A prescription label that states “Take 1 tablet 3 times a day” does not give you enough information. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to help you determine the best times to take the medication so you can easily work the dosage schedule into your daily activities, meal times and work. You will find it easier to remember to take your medicine if it fits in with your normal lifestyle. Try not to adjust your medicine or skip doses without discussing this first with your doctor or pharmacist. Some medicines can cause very serious side effects if they are stopped suddenly. Many prescription medicines can interact with other meds as well as with over-the-counter products and herbal remedies. Your doctor and pharmacist should review all of your medicines at each visit and make sure that you are not taking any prescription medicines that can adversely interact. If you think you are having a side effect and don’t know what to do, call your doctor or pharmacist. You also need to tell them if you have done anything to try to treat it – such as skipping a dose, stopping the medicine, or taking an over-the-counter or herbal remedy. Some people find it helpful to keep a “medicine diary” they can take with them to their next doctor and pharmacy visit. This diary can help you remember important information to tell your doctor so the doctor can decide if you really had a side effect or if the symptom may have been caused by something else. Your diary can also help remind you of important questions you want to ask. Some medicines must be stored away from heat, light or moisture in order to keep their strength. Transdermal patches should not be thrown away where children can find them and put them on like Band-Aids. If you are traveling in a car during hot weather, don’t store your medicines in the glove compartment; the heat can destroy the medicine and it may not work. Select your pharmacist with the same care that you select your doctor. Be sure at each pharmacy visit to tell the pharmacist if you have had any problems with any of your medicines. Your pharmacist can often provide helpful advice. You should expect to receive written information from the pharmacy that you can take home. Keep this information in a place where you can find it if you need it. However, the written instructions should never take the place of personal counseling. You need your questions answered so you can manage your medicines safely. Find out how many days in advance you should order your refills. Ask your pharmacist to develop a program to help remind you to get your refills. If you are having trouble remembering to take your medicine, it is important to let your doctor know. Otherwise, your doctor may think that the medicine is not working and may prescribe another medicine that is less effective or has more side effects. All that really may be needed is a more convenient dosage schedule for you. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Asking questions if you have any suspicions at all is a free and easy way to ensure that you don’t become the victim of a medication error. Remember, I’m not a doctor. I just sound like one. Categories: McCready News,News 28Aug Rep. McCready: Local K-12 schools in line for record funding ##### As K-12 school districts across the state gear up for a new school year, state Rep. Mike McCready said those schools are in line for a record amount of state funding.McCready, of Bloomfield Hills, said the 2017-18 school budget provides an increase from $60 to $120 per student for every school district in Michigan.“As the budget process took place this summer, we worked hard to invest in schools so every district in the state has a greater amount of funding to provide a quality education to our kids,” McCready said. “The children in K-12 schools today will be the leaders, teachers, job creators and workers of tomorrow. We need to ensure they have the tools to succeed.”McCready said that on top of the per-student increase, the budget provides more money for high-school students.“In addition, we are providing $25 for each high-school student because it costs more to provide a high-school education,” McCready said. “Our children deserve to have every opportunity to succeed once they are finished with school, and this added amount for high-school students helps in that goal.”McCready was involved in budget discussions this spring and voted for the funding increases.School districts in the communities McCready serves will receive the following estimated increases:Birmingham City School District, $679,215;Bloomfield Hills School District, $495,632;West Bloomfield School District, $726,461.
