Gov’t to release P580M for reintegration of RPA fighters

first_imgILOILO City – The national governmentis releasing P580-million worth of social package to 310 members of theRevolutionary Proletarian Army – Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) who are set toundergo decommissioning this week.  They will be trained because theirconcern is that “they will be prone to abuse of their former comrades from theNew People’s Army,” said Pancito. The package consists of socialprotection programs, capacity development, livelihood and employmentassistance, housing assistance, financial aid, and projects to boost economicactivity in RPA-ABB areas. The former combatants are from thecities of Cadiz, Kabankalan and San Carlos, and Cauayan town, all in NegrosOccidental; Ibajay, Aklan; Maasin, Iloilo; and Tanjay City, Negros Oriental. After the training, these formercombatants will have their own detachments at the eight Peace DevelopmentCommunity sites manned by them. “We’re looking after their welfare,”Pancito said. The demands of the group were jointlytalked and approved with the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces ofthe Philippines. The RPA-ABB is a splinter group of theNew People’s Army. It claims to have influence in 100 barangays in the country,91 of which are in Western Visayas. The RPA-ABB is currently known asKapatiran para sa Progresibong Panlipunan. It signed a peace agreement with thegovernment in 2000. The game will be an unexpected rematch of last year’s Orange Bowl where the Badgers.Each of these programs had a similar path to this bowl game. Both had high expectations with top 10 preseason rankings and both disappointed significantly earning only seven wins on the season.Junior Alex Hornibrook will start the game for Wisconsin after having what was perhaps the worst performance of his career to end the regular season against Minnesota.
