Over 800 Students Learning in Bad Conditions

first_imgRivercess County lawmaker Francis S. Paye has expressed his frustration with the deplorable facilities of Cestos High School, where over 800 students are attending classes.Rep. Paye has therefore sought the indulgence of his fellow lawmakers to help resolve its terrible state of affairs.Representative Paye said the library, laboratory and the auditorium of the county’s only public high school are horrible, which is inevitably impeding growth in the learning process. He stated that students are facing pathetic conditions in the absence of Physics, Economics, Geography and Language Arts instructors. The Rivercess lawmaker, in his letter read on the 29th day sitting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, May 20, reminded his colleagues of his initial letter dated July 16, 2013, which has since been forwarded to the Committee on Education to investigate and report in two weeks. The Rivercess County District # 2 Representative further complained to Plenary on the denial of salary payments to the county education officers for over two years.“You will certainly recall, our dear Honorable Speaker, that on July 16, 2013, we did forward to your honorable office a communication complaining about the deplorable situations at the Cestos High School, involving the employment of individuals placed on supplementary payrolls but had reportedly not been paid, coupled with poor conditions of the library, laboratory and auditorium regularly used by the administration and students in effectively governing the affairs of the school and the community,” Rep. Paye wrote.According to Representative Paye’s previous letter, the school’s auditorium was broken down to create more space for offices for the County and District Education Officers and expand the auditorium with the belief that there was an allotment of US$100,000, which is yet to be fruitful. The letter further said the newly appointed CEO has not been paid for 19 years because according to the Personnel Division at the Ministry of Education, the former CEO, Mr. James Bayogar, who was transferred to the Head Office, is still receiving the salary.“Also, the Education Ministry has five District Education Officers (DEOs) in the county, one of whom has also not been paid for 19 months,” the letter said. “The Education Ministry has also failed to provide vehicle for the county to conduct effective supervision of schools.”Meanwhile, members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday have voted unanimously for the letter to be forwarded to the Committee on Education as reminder to investigate and report to Plenary within two (2) weeks.LShare this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
